KA by Cirque Du Soleil

Las Vegas has seen many icons come ago across the decades. First the town belonged to crooner Frank Sinatra then came King of Pop Elvis Presley. Nowadays the strip is ruled by another entity. It is not a person but its name is all over the bars and slots. The name is Cirque Du Soleil.

Cirque Du Solieil is a Canadian entertainment company that is considered to be like a traditional circus with a more contemporary twist, and is one of the popular entertainment groups in the world and a permanent staple of Las Vegas. KA is the show available at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino

The Story: The story is lacking. Cirque Du Soliel has its origins in the circus and the circus is not exactly known for its concise narrative. Its more about the ‘you won’t believe your eyes’ theme. Indeed, the focus of many Cirque Du Soleil shows is definitely

The Good: The music is where this performance shines. The music is a mixture of tribal and energetic music. It clearly set the mood of the scene in play.

The setting of the theater is very creative, both in the theater and the way the stage is designed. The overall story and costumes has a very tribal feel. The theater is a lot of metal and catwalks but the overall feel is like an industrial temple. A shrine to the High Mechanicus! This motif continues throughout the performance with the stage and stunt settings having an industrial feel juxtaposed with the tribal performance.

KA’s focus is outstanding acrobatic stunts and outstanding is what they are. No spoilers but one can’t help but realize that they must practice constantly in order to pull off some of the stunts lest they trip and shatter some important bone.

The Flaws: The focus of many Cirque Du Soleil shows is definitely more style over substance. The focus of both shows seen by the Worm is to astound us with dramatic acrobatic stunts. There is nothing wrong with that, but at times it does beg the question during the performance of what exactly is the point here? Again, that is not necessarily why one goes to the see Cirque Do Soleil or the circus in general for that matter.

Also there is a great flaw in the ticketing process itself. Like many, CurtainWorm bought his ticket online but the receipt wasn’t enough to get inside the theater. The process required waiting in line behind all the people who had not bought tickets and waiting twenty minutes for them to finish, then to cash in the receipt that only took two minutes. This is a horribly inefficient manner of ticketing for the twenty-first century. A better process would be to have a email voucher for those who purchased their tickets ahead of time.

Final Verdict: It can’t be said that out of the two shows seen by the worm that this one is the worst, but to be completely honest, Beatles Love was the better one.

Three out of Five Stars.
